Welcome to Archäologische Staatssammlung, sorry we are closed till 2020!!!

The Archaeological Collection of the Bavarian State was founded in 1885. With its five departments (Prehistoric, Roman Period, Middle Ages, the Mediterranean, Numismatics), its permanent exhibition, conservation studios and depots it forms the central state museum. Its rich holdings of archaeological finds provide comprehensive insights into the diversity of early human existence. At present, the recently refurbished Roman section is shown over 300 sqm of exhibition space. Ten branch museums in several of Bavaria’s administrative districts illustrate the development of humankind in the respective regions with ca. 6000 museum objects.

The Sections on prehistoric, the Middle Ages, the Mediterranean and Numismatics are currently closed due to urgent refurbishment works.
